Yes, that's a viable route. My parents' ranch was located near Paonia, so we often traveled via 133 over to Glenwood to soak in the waters or via 92 over the Black Mesa to Blue Mesa/Gunnison. Of course, a great deal of it is mountain driving, but it's still a whole bunch shorter than going the long route around.
