From Kingman, Az to Las Vegas over Hoover Dam ??

The last time I took this route was not long after 9/11. We were detoured because they did not want RVs or trucks going across the dam. You could do it but it was a real hassle. IS THIS STILL TRUE? Or can you cross without incident?
  • Look at Hoover Dam on Google maps, satellite view. You'll see the new bypass bridge is part of Hwy 93. I'll be going across it for the first time in July. Last time I went across the dam, they were in the middle of building the bridge. It was an awesome site to see the half-way built bridge from the dam.
  • And you don't see squat from the new bridge due to the solid sidewalls being so tall.
  • With the new bridge you'll be across the Colorado River before you realize it - unless you pay close attention to visitor parking signs.
  • No traffic can cross the dam.... From the AZ side, you will cross over the new bridge, only about one year old. From the Nevada side, you can reach the dam for tours, ETC, but that is it. That new bridge is really something, and you can walk on it.
