I'm assuming you mean Charlton. Route 2 is a much slower route. The area where Rt. 2 and I495 connect is also miserable at rush hour. There's no "good" route if the timing is bad.

There are not too many easy on / easy off exits for gas on the turnpike.

X2. Charlton is your only alternative on the Pike-Ludlow is west of 84 and you hit 495 well before the Natick plaza. The 20 cents extra will probably be easier than dealing with exiting and entering the Pike. There is gas off of 495 but I can't say how easy their access it.

Google earth those rest stops if you take gasoline vs. diesel. There are separate diesel pumps that are straight in, but the gas pumps are usually angled.

There are not too many easy on / easy off exits for gas on the turnpike. There are rest stops with gas in ludlow, charlton and natick. Prices are about .20 higher. Enjoy your trip!
