gassing up with TT on

This will be our first time pulling a TT to Yuma, we were wondering about getting a TT into and out of gas stations. Even the truck stops have me worried. do I pull into the end stall or what. after looking at the pumps at our local Pilot station confuses me. how do you pull out if there cars parked in the spaces at the front doors. doesn't seem like a lot of room to turn and swing out with a 35 ft TT. the pumps around back are for the trucks and they are all diesel pumps right? the Love station just north of Las Vegas seems to have the most room for TT's but some of the others look very short, even the shell station in Ely Nv gives me concerns.
  • Take your time and look ahead. I've found very few gas stations that are not possible to use. When using stations where pump lines are perpendicular to the building, choose outside lanes and even they cause no issues with my 34 foot trailer.

    Good luck / Skip
  • Some truck stops, I believe Pilot, have RV islands.
Start looking for a fuel stop when you get to half a tank.
I try to figure out how I will exit the pump area before I enter, if you don't like what you see, go to the next station.
If you are really concerned, do a Google search for gas stations along your route. Then check them on Google Maps, etc., and you can see the layout.
Don't worry, you will be fine.
  • I pulled into one little town when running lower on fuel than I was comfortable with. I had to fill up, and I did not have room to maneuver into the station. So I parked next door and used my five gallon can to make a few trips. It was a pain, but it's good to have a gas can with you in case you run into that type of situation.
  • The joys of gas stations and long TT's. We, LOL, hubby has a knack at guessing exactly what angle to approach.

We sometimes have 73' with the Avalanche, TT and 20'boat. The last time out we needed gas and the only place he had both the TT angled one way and the boat another. He squeezed in and out with about 4" on each side, LOL

Practice makes perfect,or near to it. I am sure you have travelled enough that you will manage fine wherever you have to get in.
  • Sometimes it smart to wait for the end pump if things are tight but most Pilots and other truck stops have enough room to turn. And many have RV lanes which have more turning room. I use Pilot and Flying J frequently for that reason.
  • This is also something I've been concerned about since our trips so far have been short.
  • if I run into a situation like you describe, I pull to the station and thne pull to the end pumps facing away from the store. If not able to do that use the island on the outside with access to the fuel tank on truck.

Cant comment on the stations mentioned, we use fly J and they normally have separate rv pump away from traffic areas.
