Gila Bend AZ to Puerto Penasco

On our way from BC Canada in early Nov 2013 to the NASCAR races in Phoenix. We have a self contained 25ft Class C motor home.
After the races, would love to head to Puerto Penasco Mexico for a couple of weeks. We have been to Mexico a number of times, but never with our RV.

Would appreciate any assistance and recommendations for border crossing, best time to cross, RV park suggestions and any other tips or advice you can pass on.

We also have a small beagle dog traveling with us.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

We love the Reef RV park on the West side of Rocky Point. You will have a ball. There is a ton of gringos that live full-time in Rocky Point. Rocky Point has changed since the 60s & 70s. AS safe or safer than Arizona.

I'm posting from the Reef right now, spot A-5.
Caught a trigger on the beach and gonna cook it up. Kinda windy today, and only 5 TT here.

Are these American owned or managed RV parks? How far is it into town from these parks?

  • Had breakfest this morning with my old friend that went will me to Rocky Point, we did it over 50 times in the mid 60's. and 70's. He hurt a little girl who was riding on the bumper of his bus and fell off. He didn't know she was on the bumper but they still put him in jail for 30 days, cost him about 15 thsound dollars to get out. He had the Mex insurance but they didn't care. He also was a Dr. but they didn't care. One month in jail and then pay off all the one with there hands out. Good luck.
  • Jerry Mc.......so that is where you hide in the summer. You can run but not hide.

Will see you in late Oct. in PC. Have a good time there and eat up the shrimp.

  • We stayed at Playa Bonita http://www.ontheroadin.com/pacificcoast/pacificnorth/playabonitarvpark.htm for three weeks last November. Thoroughly enjoyee it. The swimming was great. Crossing was easy. Make sure you carefully check both the Mexican and U.S. Customs regarding what can be brought in and what is prohibited. Our travel trailer was thoroughly searched when we crossed back into the U.S. at San Luis just south of Yuma.

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument http://www.nps.gov/orpi/index.htm South of Ajo is an interesting stop if you have the time.

  • We crossed about noon, no problem, spring breakers shouldn't be an issue, have your pet shot records,if you have handguns ,you can drop them off in Why at the general store .We stayed at the Reef RV park, which is a little ways out of town, but we didn't mind the drive into town, the parks in town are really tight, small moho should be okay in town.Only other consideration for us was ,Insurance. we had to purchase additional ins.
