Good and bad news about New Brunswick Prov Parks
Last year we spent a week in New Brunswick as part of a couple of months' trip to Maine & Atlantic Canada, and stayed at Herring Cove Provincial Park (Campobello) and New River PP (near St. John.)
I noticed today that NB has an online booking system for the campgrounds: www.parcsnbparks.ca.
I'm fairly certain this is new this season. There are campsite photos, you can pick your site, etc. Very nicely done. The bad news is that there's a $10 nonrefundable fee to book.
Being a somewhat obsessive RVer about planning our routes and making advance reservations, I was frustrated last year that, unlike other maritime PPs, there seemed to be no way to book online for NB. I may be wrong about that, but I googled a lot a year ago and could only find phone numbers (or email addresses that were never answered.)
When we called, no one would answer or be interested in taking a reservation until April or May (which made me twitchy worrying that we wouldn't get a site.)
I realized after getting there in July that there seemed to be plenty of available sites even on weekends. But now you can use the site to get lots more information and judge whether you might be wise to book ahead if it seems to be filling on your dates.
I pass this on for the other twitchy obsessive/compulsives out there.
