What is hwy 141 like. I am leaning toward 550 to 62.

Joe B. has good info. Unaweep is scenic but slower, even though you have to slow to go through Delta and Montrose on US 50/550. Parts of the road south of Gateway remind me of the section of UT 128 along the Colorado River upstream from Moab. The route south on US 50/550 has continuous views of the San Juans as you approach from the north.
If you have the time to do the drive and stock up and fill up in GJ, there's no problem with pulling the Unaweep route.
