Probably the road you are thinking of is US 212 (Beartooth Highway) which enters YNP from the NE corner. Definitely not one to take if you are shaky on mountain driving.
I wouldn't hesitate to use either US 26 or US 191 into GTNP. And from there, head north on US 191 to US 20 to Fishing Bridge. No issues.
