If you are worried about snow on the pass on US 26, the portion of US 191 into Hoback Junction does not go over enough of a pass to be concerned about. I agree with the others that US 287 to US 26 is more scenic near the mountains, but both US 287 and US 191 cross very long stretches of sagebrush-covered semi-desert to get to that scenery.
If you happen to be a history buff, the US 287 route follows a portion of the Oregon-California Trail toward the east approach to famous South Pass.
