Grand Teton and Yellowstone, best roads.

I reserved a spot at Grand Teton (Colter Bay) mid May, stay 4 days then 5 days at Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge).
I will be coming from the East towards Grand Teton and remember reading that one road was tricky but can not find the thread anymore.

1. For a 30' 5th wheel, what is the best way to get to Colter Bay coming from the East?

2. After that, we go from Colter Bay to Fishing Bridge. Should I take the direct road (191) through the parks?

Agree with either of these routes into GTNP. We prefer route 26 over the Togwotee Pass for the great scenery. It's a gradual easy climb after you pass Dubois and a somewhat steeper descent down to Moran Junction. Colter Bay isn't many miles from there. Should be lots of snow at the top of the pass in mid May as they have had a heavy snow year.

Route 191 north from Rock Springs to GTNP doesn't involve going over a pass, but IMO is a boring drive.
  • Probably the road you are thinking of is US 212 (Beartooth Highway) which enters YNP from the NE corner. Definitely not one to take if you are shaky on mountain driving.
