Since that seems to be your real route, be aware that there is major construction just south of Frazier Park and it goes on for almost 10 miles. Depending on what's going on there can be major delays in one direction or another, and its not time of day selective. There are also random on and off ramp closures. The south Frazier on ramp was closed and detoured when I was there last week.
I can see the Grape Vine out the back yard about 10 miles away, and the backup of headlights has been common for months.
Why not just stay on the 101 where its way less steep, crowded, hot, or smelly, and enjoy THAT drive?
