Grape Vine Pass North of LA

The Grapevine can have snow and often has high winds so avoiding it is a good idea. In general I make much better time on Hwy 101, where there is a fraction of the heavy truck traffic that exists on I-5, and the drive time and distance are often nearly identical. There are more fuel stops, nice restaurants, and much better scenery as well but the absence of trucking traffic and people speeding and trying to overtake vehicles by driving in the right lane and then cutting over suddenly, is reason enough to take Hwy 101.
