No I did not pick a camping ground, with the truck camper I normally choose at the last minutes where I stay over night and I presume it should not be too busy at this time of the year

  • Have you picked the park where you are going to stay yet?

  • Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have been "touristized" and you will be going during peak season. Lot of heavy traffic especially on weekends (Friday and Saturday are worst). "Leaf peepers and Christmas shoppers will be out in droves.
I said all that (and it is true) and DW and I are leaving for Smokies in the morning. We absolutely love it there. We go as often as we can, about 7 hr. drive for us. We've just learned how to adjust to the crowds and learned a lot of back roads etc.
By all means go, you will enjoy!
  • As others have said, you probably won't have any weather-related issues. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are nice and have plenty to see and do. Visit Dollywood if you like amusement parks and Cade's Cove if you like outdoor history. There is an 11 mile loop at Cade's cove that you can drive or, on Sunday mornings, you can hike or bike it. We visited the Great Smoky Mountains a few years ago and enjoyed it so much, we'll be going back next year.
  • I have lived in the area for over 50 years and generally the weather should be fine. That said....It could snow. I have seen it all. If I was betting, I would say it will be fine camping weather. There could be some leaf color in the lower elevations.

I say go for it. I will be in the area until Nov. 2nd.
  • Depends on the cold fronts. It could be anything from clear and cool to gray and rainy. Probably won't see snow in November. Average 76 deg F high and 59 deg low.
