Guanajuato - Bugamville RV Park

Here is my file on Bugamville - keep in mind I just keep adding info and never delete anything - so the last listed numbers would be the last entry - which should mean current - Carlos speaks English perfectly well so no need for Spanish - try his cell. You can use Google Earth to find it not only from above but the street view. Still no WiFi - no pool - low water pressure but good water - electric is 30 amp but not if it is busy as there is really not enough for lots of rigs. Works great for us as we know the way in and out of town and have our car. Carlos is not always there but is there quite a lot.

Bugamville RV Park, Guanajuato

June 24, 2011 Update - In Guanajuato we stayed at the Bugamville, which was excellent. The owner couldn't do enough to make the place better. He had put many new hook ups, the grassy area was well kept, the bathrooms nice, he had prepared a note for how to get to town by bus and how to come back and so on. Guanajuato – Bugamville – update notes. Feb. 28, 2012

Not entirely sure of all the details. Spoke with the new owner – Carlos – who is the son of the old owner – old owner died last year so Carlos is trying to improve things.

He has put in all new electric wiring and water pipes – but electric is still a problem and he tells us it is true for the whole area and not just this RV park – don’t know.

Water pressure is very low but he is working on improving that – he says he has a very good well – water is good and safe to drink – but a new pump might be needed to up the pressure.

I checked the wiring and as near as I can tell the wire is 8 AWG which should be good for 50 amp but the problem is all the outlets on one side run off the one wire and one breaker. The actual outlets are 15 amp plugs – with one outlet having two plugs – one outlet for every two spaces. We are the only ones here and tried to run our AC and our voltage dropped from 114 to 91 – brown out. We will run our generator if we need power for AC.

Water pressure is 2 to 5 lbs so just a trickle but we run from our fresh tank with our pump and just have to keep filling the fresh tank.

The dump station is way down on the SE corner of the property – what looks to be a square concrete tank but I don’t think it is actually a tank and have no idea where the sewage goes.

Carlos has fixed up the restaurant and it looks very nice. He is building new bathrooms and showers. He is putting in new lighting. He will run sewer lines along the west side spaces when he runs the line from the new bathrooms so there will be dump hookups in about 15 spaces. He thinks when he is all done he will have about 42 spaces.

As near as I can tell there are 4 brothers who now own the property and Carlos gets the RV park area with the other brothers getting roughly equal amounts of land where Carlos says they want to build their houses. Next door is a heavy equipment yard which may belong to one of the brothers.

The closest our Garmin got to numbers for the entrance is . . 20.94802 -101.25742 . . There is a sign for CaMiKatts Restaurant and Bugamville RV Park which are both at this location.

Carlos says there have been several caravans here this year and Fantasy just left the day before we got here. He says up to 20 rigs have been OK with the electric as long as they don’t try to run the ACs.

The new bathrooms could improve things in that department – they are being built as we speak – Carlos hopes they will be done in about a month.

The sites could use some leveling. With the heavy equipment next door they should be able to do that. Maybe Carlos is waiting to run the sewer lines before putting much effort into leveling since it will be torn up again.

NOTES Feb. 21, 2013

Almost everything has changed at Bugamville. The original owner passed away a couple years ago and one of the sons has taken over the RV part of the property.

All the old RV spaces were torn out and replaced with new spaces. Each space is about 18 feet wide. All spaces are easily long enough for big rigs. The owner says he can fit up to 42 rigs on the property. Work continues on leveling spaces – some are better than others. The whole RV area is fenced and gated.

At the time we were there – late Feb. 2013 – all the spaces on the west side had water, electric, and sewer. The east side had water and electric - sewer should be in soon.

Two completely new bathrooms – one men and one women.

Most of the parking areas are still just dirt – rain could be a problem.

A slab has been poured where a new laundry room will soon be built.

A new transformer has been purchased and installed and new wiring is everywhere – wires are in place for improved electric. BUT the inspector has not arrived yet to give the OK to fire everything up so we are still on restricted power. This could change tomorrow (manana). Number 8 wire runs to all spaces and there will be a master breaker panel by the office for each space. We talked with the owner about the possibility of metered spaces so high power users pay more than those who use less power and he showed me he already has some sort of digital metering system that I did not understand. I saw the new wires and transformer so I am sure this is really going to happen soon – everything is in place.

Water pressure was still low. But Carlos (the owner) showed me that he has a problem with high pressure from the gravity feed tank on the roof of the office – when he opened the valve on the tank my pressure gauge immediately shot up to over 80 psi which is too high for an RV in my opinion. He needs some sort of pressure regulation but says he cannot find a regulator anywhere. I said I would bring one from the states next year. If anyone is coming sooner you can contact Carlos and I am sure he would work something out to pay you for it. Water is drinkable.

WiFi was not available while we were there but that is in the works also. We have a Telcel stick and it works here.

There is also a restaurant on premises. Next door his brother has a swimming pool and they are working on plans for a gate access to this.

The access road and entrance are still not great – signs are not easy to see – turn in can be tight. There are two very large new commercial complexes across the road – to the east is the CFE (gov’t electric company) University with a large walled property – to the west is a very large Correo (GTO Newspaper) building – the entrance to the RV park is between these two and across the street (south side). A new storage facility is being built immediately east of the entrance on the same side. The RV park is a couple hundred yards from the highway – very quiet.

Both the CFE and Correo buildings are new and still under construction but it has been promised that they will be bringing new phone lines and high speed internet to the area.
There is a bus stop to GTO out front on the highway or the owner can arrange transportation to town. It is about 7 miles to the centro area.

A lot of construction was going on around the old RV park property during weekdays. One of the brothers owns a heavy equipment company and is building an equipment yard. Much of the front of the property has been cleaned up. The whole place looks better.

We were there in November.

Southbound from the glorieta mentioned above. Next roundabout take the second exit. Several kilometers later:

Watch for the large Correo building on the left (newspaper, not post office) the park entrance is just about opposite on the right.

Down the long narrow entrance road the entrance is a wire gate on the right.

Power water and sewer, sites are narrow. We were the only rig in the park so we just parked parallel to the wall, 90 degrees to the site markings.

This is an all new park (within a few years) not quite in the same place as the original park. Can't remember if we had wifi or not.

We just keep accumulating information - much of it is written by others - some from this forum - updates on the Church website - emails people send us - we just Copy & Paste and keep adding - we have files on every state in Mexico and each RV park - a very simple matter of Copy & Paste to add new info - then we have it - 10 years of adding hopefully keeps us up to date.

Always note the dates on my entries as some are quite old and things have changed. If you use Google Earth Street View you will find they even drove down the dirt road to where the actual RV park is and there is a car ahead of the Google car - I think it is the park owner as the wife gets out of the car and opens the gate - Google Earth is amazing for seeing where you are going ahead of time.

I hadn't used Earth that way before. Very interesting. Nice preview of what to expect. Had I done that here at EL Faro I would have seen that Maps has it in the wrong place. Thanks.

We also use it all over for things like fuel stops to make sure the fuel islands are accessible for a big rig. Lots of uses for GE and very surprising where they have gone and what you can find on there.

Yeah - Carlos thinks because Juan at San Ramon by San Miguel charges 270 he can charge 270 too - but San Ramon has WiFi and pool and is much closer to centro and lower spaces are on concrete - lots of reasons San Ramon is worth more - and he could be high too - but when you are the only game in town........

And when they (San Ramon) is full and won't take a reservation then it is academic. We'll have a great time.
