Banco de México is advising patrons not to transnfer money using ATM's or using the ATM machines, at least 20 bank's have been hacked and they are currently using the emergency system for payment transactions, they are advising not to use the ATM'S for the nextt 15 days.

They advice to go to the inside cashier instead.

They did not mention which banks got hacked.

  • This information was given to me, as the Moderator, from a very reliable source close to the industry who requests to remain anonymous:

This is not what happened. SPEI is the company that is used to make inter bank transfers. That system was hacked. Anyone who lost money was or will be reimbursed via the equivalent of FDIC insurance. Banks that were affected were Banamex, Bancomer, and Banorte. The information regarding banks that do not participate in the SPEI program is false. All Mexican banks use the SPEI as it is recommended by Banxico the national banking system.

Really appreciate all of you getting the information out there.

  • CitiBanamex witch is owned by Citibank in the US was only affected last Sunday, they tried to hack in to the ATM'S and they just shut down, no trans actions or money withdrawals were possible, this was corrected on Monday morning, I went to the bank yesterday morning and asked them about it.

CitiBanamex and the Bancomer do not participate in the countries money transfer program between banks that is what was hacked, you need a special PIN number in order to transfer money to or from your account with CitiBanamex to another bank's account.

Transferring from the Citibank US account to the Mexican CitiBanamex account is and was not affected at all, for now just go to the teller and have them do what you need to do instead of using the ATM's, specially the ones that are in shopping malls or stores.

  • BANORTE was hit the worst.

Two accounts, checking and savings. Autonomous cards. Transfer money as needed. They can't steal what isn't there.
