Haines to Skagway Ferry

We put two 40' DPs on. I don't know if it's the same ferry but I think the problem is in the program, not with your length as they're also putting 40' or 45' freight trucks on the same ferry. I'd call them to see what the problem is.

I'd just use 30'. When we were in Haines we drove to the terminal and talked to them. At that time there was no need to pre book but we did arrive a little early to be near the front.

We were concerned about the ramp situation etc since there was no information on the website and the tides can be extreme. While they are well aware of rig clearances I'd advise anyone to proceed with caution and if concerned stop and they will quickly be there.

Our rig is low and they checked the clearance on and off.

I was amused when later in 2013 the Skagway floating dock sank (it's between shore and the ferry) due to a fresh water supply problem. I'm sure many weren't so amused since it took a number of weeks to refloat. But that is all part of the Alaska trip experience.

We took the ferry last year only in reverse, Skagway to Haines.
We have a 40' MH and that is what we paid for online. Upon arrival they will measure both width and length prior to boarding to double check.
We had no problems getting the "LabLimo" on or off. They do a great job of directing you and watching for problems.
Probably giving them a call will solve the 30' vs 31' problem.

We left our 27 foot Motorhome in Haines, and took the Fast Ferry over to Skagway last summer. We left in the morning and arrived about 45 minutes later. We spent the better part of the day in Skagway and returned back to Haines later that evening. Skagway is not very big, and is quite walkable. This plan works if you only want to visit Skagway and not make it a stop on a continuing journey. Have a great trip.

We used that ferry last summer 32' Class A no problem but do be prepared to back your rig onto Ferry. Not problematic it just caught me by surprise being the first MH on that day. I think they would probably drive it on for you if you didn't want to do it

We took our 45' motorhome and a 42' motorhome from Haines to Skagway, as well as from Bellingham to Juneau, Juneau to Haines. Easy and the people on the ferry could not be nicer or more accommodating. Only problem for us was getting off the ferry in Skagway, the loading ramp doesn't move as much there as other places and we both drug a little bit. No harm done, but a little unnerving.

Calling them is the best. When we booked our ferry trip, the ferry system and everyone associated with it were the best. They were all professional, anyone who took your call could answer your questions and their sole purpose is for you to have a great time and not worry about the trip. They will help you.

I can't swim and am afraid of water. I've been on catamarans in Hawaii and on a ferry across the North Sea and was kind of OK. Would this be a scary trip for a wimp like me?

I read about the sinking of the Queen of the North (BC ferry), which didn't help, but I've always wanted to see the sights from the ocean, have heard it's incredible.

Haines to Skagway is about 15 miles and in protected waters so expect smooth sailing.

What worked for our return trip was Haines Jct, Haines, Skagway and homeward bound. We were going to take the train trip from Skagway but it rained. The road trip to the border is close to the same route. BTW the train people are not allowed off of the train at the border while we freely walked around past Canadian customs. I'm not knocking trains as we always enjoy them.
