Regarding the CAD$ vs USD$ in 2003 it was about at its widest dscrepancy. One could get only about 63 cents for a Canadian dollar if buying an American dollar. For the next seven winters we hid a way in Mexico. In Canada at that time there was a lot of talk of adopting the American dollar as official currency, like countries such as Ecuador have done. That fizeled out completely as the CAD rose. Since then there have been very short periods when the Canadian dollar rose just beyond the value of the American dollar.
