Headed out

We left Alabama this morning headed North. Made it to St. Louis for the night. Going to Mt. Rushmore first. Then heading up.
  • Have a good trip, don't expect too much from Rushmore. But there are a lot more places to see in the Black Hills/Badlands.
  • Highly recommend giving Custer State Park, the Mamouth Dig, and Chief Crazy Horse Memorial some consideration. We probably spent an hour at Rushmore and close to 1/2 day each at the other sites. The little Big Horn is definitely worth a stop also!
We will definitely visit all these sites again on our way to the Alaska Highway!

    Have a GREAT trip!
  • The best thing about Mount Rushmore if they still do it, and they probably do is the Flag lowering
ceremony at night. All veterans are invited down to participate. The last time we were there one of the Park Rangers recited all stanzas of the Star Spangled Banner. It is very emotional to see. So there are things that are worth seeing and doing besides stopping for a half hour and take a couple
    of pictures.
  • Best of luck to you on your journey. I am trying to not turn green with envy. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. lizzie (Class of 2013)
  • We crossed into Canada today. Spending tonight in Ft Macleod at CG Daisy May. Nice cc. We crossed on Hwy 89 and crossing took all of 5 minutes. Hope all our crossings go as easy.
Warning to any who plan on coming up Hwy 89 from I15 toward Glacier NP. Be prepared for about 15 miles (feels like 30) of very slow RUFF road. They have highway torn up and it is RUFF. We went between 5 and 10 MPH and at times that was too fast.
    Tomorrow moving on to Edmonton.
    Be safe.
