I typically drive 500 miles a day with no problem,

Those easterners who have never been out west typically don't realize just how BIG "out west" really is. A lot of our counties are larger than many eastern states. Huge mountain ranges (some with volcanoes), super hot deserts, 2000 miles of beautiful coastal areas, national parks galore (again, some larger than some eastern states), monstrous trees/forests...the list goes on and on. Keep in mind that since you're leaving in June, the "southwest" gets really hot around that time and stays hot until September. Probably not wise to visit that area during that time period.
Let us know what your interest are and I think we "westerners" can give you a better idea of the possibilities.
