Heading South From Indiana to FL AVOID ATL

I wil be heading south on I-65 headed to Bonita Springs FL. I want to avoid and take the path of least resistance thru or around Atlanta.

Suggestions.

I will probably stop at DeSoto State Park in Alabama the night before I tackle Atlanta

Which will bring me into Atlanta on I-75.

Thanks

  • If you search this Forum for `atlanta' then search the results for words like `straight through' or `bypass' you will read what has already been posted. We use the bypass but many go thru.
  • I agree with Ivylog. I really hate going through Atlanta, but I usually bite the bullet and do it. The bypass is very long and the traffic is usually just as heavy as taking 75 straight through Atlanta. Traffic starts picking up at 6 a.m. and dies down after 9 a.m. I try to get through town between 10 and 3:30 in the afternoon. I've gotten trapped in the right lane and was forced to exit once, so now I tend to travel in the center lanes going through town.

I also hate trying to get fuel in Atlanta. I have yet to find a station where you can get an RV in and out without problems.

I go straight through on I-75 non rush hour... No problems BUT do no stay in the right lane as there are several times where the two right lanes become exits. Exits to I-285 on the north side . after 75 & 85 join and for I-20 at the state capital. If traffic is bad I'll use the HOV lane.
