Heading to Colorado

We are headed to Colorado in three weeks for a couple of RV rallies. So I have a couple of questions. Is CO 10 between LaJunta and Walsenburg decent? Also CO 94 between Colorado Springs and Aroya? Both of the state roads are on a more direct route for where we want to land.
And are there any decent RV parks in the Lamar or La Junta area? Those that I have checked out on RV Park Review do not have very flattering remarks. This would be for an overnight only, so we are only looking for electric and water hookups. But we don't want to stay in a hell hole either.
  • That daily access vehicle, whether it be the TV or the toad, is an irritation. The parks are learning from the airlines in the art of annoying customers with add ons.

Rather than "beware", I'd prefer to recommend "be aware".

Lake Hasty CG fee is $24 w/electric, and the $7 park fee. That's $31/night for a place that has the highest rating in the area, compared to commercial CG in the Lamar and La Junta areas. That's still cheaper than the commercial locations.

  • ^^^^^ What these folks said. John Martin Res/Lake Hasty CG.

H E R E is more info on Lake Hasty. Note that the sites are electric only, but water is readily available throughout the CG.
  • Ditto for Lake Hasty CG. Otherwise, you are stuck with pricey and semi-crummy RV parks in Lamar or LaJunta.
  • If you only need water/electric, check out the Lake Hasty campground below John Martin Reservoir. It is a State Park.

Never been on 94 but 10 was fine a few years back - as far as spots to stay - we have only found the state Parks in the area to be good otherwise Wal*Mart, just must be that the season is so short, and the land so expensive, that there are few opportunities to provide a good CG that is not supported by the Public.

Enjoy your stay - Colorado is one of the best in the USA.
