Lien holders can be very picky. Not only do they have a problem with people taking their financed vehicles to Mexico, my former girlfriend found out she could not take her California financed car to Hawaii, until she got the military involved (she was a sailor reassigned to Pearl Harbor). She had the same problem trying to take that same car back to California after she completed her tour of duty. The lender demanded payment in full before the car could be shipped back to the mainland.
