Actually Ken, I only have 2 weeks to do this trip. You've got me thinking that its way too much to take on. I've modified it down 400 miles to go only as far as Portland, then back down the coast. I know we could stand to have more time to thoroughly explore everything, but I think we'll still have a great time. Unfortunately, now I'm learning that it might be too late already. I'm getting negative feedback from both my 12 & 14 year old daughters about being bored and too much time in the car. Big family meeting tonight at dinner to find out what they really want. Tweens are the worst. If it comes down to it, they will all go to Grandma's house while the wife and I go on a trip without them. ;)
Well, I got frustrated and told myself I'm doing this trip with or without them(my 12 & 14 year old girls). I'll just take my 7 year old boy and have a blast. So, I've booked a combination of forest campgrounds, KOA's, and a nice hotel on the river in Bend. This will give us a break between roughing it to swim and shower. Now the girls seem interested and want to come. On the itinerary so far is the Shasta Caverns, zip-lining, white water rafting, biking, museum, more caves, waterfalls, cheese factory tour, sand buggy rentals, and beach play. If they still don't have fun, I've tried my best to show them an good time and won't have any regrets. I could use a few more suggestions on places to stay/camp coming back down the Oregon coast from Astoria as well as fun things to do that they might enjoy.
