I would suggest either choosing a different restaurant or accepting that you will need to either take transit or a taxi.
Transit in Vancouver is efficient and safe. There is a Skytrain station at Broadway and Cambie, which should be walking distance from the restaurant.
The border is open 24/7, so you will not have to worry about getting back by a specific time. You will not want to be caught in rush hour on highway 99 getting back through the Tunnel, so plan on staying and explore the city for awhile.
However there are other considerations. You will not want to bring fruits and vegetables across the border. Check for current restrictions.
If you travel with fire arms you have to leave them stateside.
