Dunno about hotels, but as an owner of several by-the-month rentals I can tell you that evidence of cats is FAR more difficult to get rid of than that of dogs. And I'm not talking about hair, but odors. Especially if male, cats seem to leave something odiferous behind that's very persistent.

Believe it about the cat fur allergy. Twenty years ago a friend almost died because he forgot his "EPIPEN" at home. It's not a simple yes/no thing apparently. "Some" cats affect "some" folks while "other" cats affect "other" folks. Cargo hold air in a passenger commercial aircraft is forbidden to be connected to the passenger cabin air supply for too many reasons to list.

We have a cat and a dog and have never been turned down at motels in Mexico

I think if the cat is confined to a cage it is different than roaming around a hotel room.

Which is why many public places do not allow cats. I love cats but my wife is allergic and cannot be near a cat without having her eyes swell shut. Once a cat has been in a room it is almost impossible to remove the danger.

That is amazing! Considering that I've flown with my cat on board in the US. I wonder if the airlines know about this?

Stay in a Motel, place cat in cat carrier, and also have a cat litter box, place litter box in bathrrom on floor, take cat and show cat where litter box is do not lock cat in bathroom, do not let cat out of room when entering and exiting, the cat should be OK.

There are worse things in Motel rooms than cat hair.

Folks: We are talking about Mexican motel/hotels not a Scottsdale palace. Mexican typically rent a motel room and bring the whole family. Little kids pee in the bed. The rooms are left with food all over the place and they steal everything that is not nailed to the floor! Not unusual to have 20 people in a room! One of our friends used to be a maid in an Hermosillo motel. She has lots of stories. BUT Mexican motels typically do not take any pets. I know some travelers that stay in the notel motels with their dogs. You can find these motels on the outskirts of any major city. Usually have some sort of Arabic motif.

You have not lived with cats if you can ask that! :B

Fur on the carpet, bedding etc is impossible to remove
scratching furniture and drapes
climbing drapes
scratch the litter box contents everywhere
pee if they get p!ssed off
etc etc etc.

We have had cats in the past and they have done most of the above one time or another. We love them but due to worsening allergies I am supposed to leave them at a distance. I am reminded every time I pick one up to cuddle! :S
