Hermosillo ByPass

Last we heard it was going to open this month. Any news?

It would sure make our trip down easier!

  • The city driving experience I chose to dislike is Puerto Vallarta. The first left turn feels exactly the same as bumper cars at San Ysidro. Then two tunnels that have buckboard pavement. But it the crawl up the arroyo on the south side of town I despise. Suicide taxis squealing around curves. Then they dart out of those 5-star hotel entrances. When it flattens out after a 15 mile curvy climb I give a sigh of relief.

Word of advice Mex 14-D from Morelia to the coaat has become a little flaky. There have been daylight carjackings and cargo truck jackings. When Jesus has a load in his pickup he gets in front of a big rig and stays within sight. If a big rig driver sees someone forcing you over they will relay it to the SSP. Highway Patrol.

Wouldn't it be nice for authorities to create Q-ships? Hijacker see vehicle or cargo, force to the side of the highway then "SURPRISE!" rat-a-tat-atat-a-tat (Keep Dreaming).

You'll have a smooth trip. The hotel summer rates will be a surprise.
  • The Mazatlan bypass allows you to go by with only a couple of glimpses of the city. It's easy.
We'll be using hotels and towing a cargo trailer. With two people, two big dogs and a cat in a Durango, it's see how fast we can get to Zihuatanejo!
  • 15-D offers little over 57 and 57-D especially in the summer when Mexicanos take their beach vacation. I have crunched numbers till the keypads wore off and from Southern California, it is way the heck and gone cheaper to use 57. And I include the savings from Tecoman to Lazaro Cardenas and avoiding Mex 15D.

For folks truly addicted to "Beach Coastline Only!" the coast route is mandatory.

But the thought tempers quickly when Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta summer traffic is encountered. And from Guaymas to Mazatlan summer afternoon road flooding has worn my patience thin. Too much lost time. And in the interior I can overnight at gasolineras. From San Diego 57 has proven to be two days faster and $360 less expensive than Mex 15-D. But this is a commute issue not something that is applicable to a winter beach vacation crawl.
  • Too bad. We still have 2+ weeks, so we'll check again and hope it's open!
  • Friends drive it yesterday and no sign it’s open. The one around Obregon sure is nice.
