Highway 14 Utah Cedar City to Long Valley

Hi we found out that highway 143 was not big rig RV friendly so we wondered if we can cross over to 89 using this route. We have the truck and trailer in my signature and are travelling with friends with a 42' Diesel pusher and toad, our destination is Panguitch so we could drive further north to 20 if 14 is an issue. Thanks for any feedback. Michael
  • Interesting just decided to plot both routes on Trips and Streets, turns out it is 2 miles shorter if we go up to 20. Decided we will day trip through 143 and 14 with truck rather than haul trailer. Thank you for your input.
  • Thanks, I will talk to our other party and look at taking 20.

I also think that would be the wise decision.
  • If you want a 6% average grade for 10 miles straight up then take 14. If not take 20 which tops out 2000 feet lower in elevation and is not as steep.
  • If you can take Duffy Lake Rd to Lillooet ...

The problem with 143 (other a long grade) is a tight pair of switch backs just below the Brian Head ski resort. Not as tight as the pair in Yoho Nat Park that require long rvs to back up, still closer to switch back than most paved curves.

14 has an S loop, but it's not tighter than a freeway cloverleaf.
