Montrose to Ouray is a piece of cake - mostly flat.
Ouray to Durango is as described above. We have done it many times and are comfortable with it but it all depends on your comfort level for real mountain driving. Your MH is certainly capable of doing it. You just go slow as everyone else does. Semi trucks drive this route.
Actually heading south as you would be doing seems a lot easier because you're against the mountains, not on the edge. The major part is from Ouray to Silverton then it gets much better. :)
Silverton is an awesome place to spend a night or two - or more. There are some wonderful 4-wheeling drives of all abilities right from town. It's 4-wheeling at its best. We've been on all of them over the years in our '04 Liberty. We boondock there but if you stay in one of the RV parks it would be full of 4-wheelers. Get to talking to some of them and they most likely would let you tag along on one of their rides. Its more fun with someone else. It's one of our favorite places.
From Durango south it's easy.
Another route you might consider which is milder is from Ridgeway picking up Hwy 145 through Telluride and down to Cortez. It's still mountain but of a more gentle kind! But then you'd miss Silverton unless you drive back up just in your Jeep from Durango. Have a good trip!
