Highway 6 in AB Through Waterton Lakes and Hiway 17 in MT

We came back up to Canada on Hwy 17 and Hwy 6 about a month ago. Just watch out for livestock on the Hwy 17 as it travels through an open community range/ranch area and the cows roam freely. Almost had one hit the side of the truck three years ago as it bolted out of the ditch. Hwy 49 between St. Mary's and East Glacier is restricted to certain vehicle length. I think it is restricted to 24 feet or something like that. The road has quite a few twists and turns but the scenery is incredible.

Thanks for that info. We heard about the flood in Calgary, but just recently heard that Bragg Creek was also involved. They are mobile with motorhomes, so they were probably able to get out with enough warning, but I will email them to check.

I believe Bragg Creek was flooded out just a couple of weeks ago.It was a major, major flood in southern Alberta. A lot of Calgary was under water including the Stampede grounds but they manged to have the stampede this year. The water was up to the 8th row of seats in the Saddle Dome. Black Diamond and Longview were also flooded along with High River and many other places. Lots of damages and lost homes.

Yes, and that was fabulous. We entered Canada at Abbotsford, drove to Kamloops,and Valmount, then we stayed at the campground in Jasper NP for a few days. Then we drove to the Icefields, and even spent the night in the parking lot there. On to the campground at Lake Louise, and then to Banff. We did several day trips out of Lake Louise. Before we left Canada north of Great Falls, we spent some time parked with some friends in Bragg Creek. We have many fond memories of that trip! This was several years ago.

Have you gone up the Icefields highway to Jasper?

Thanks so much for the helpful posts. We're enjoying a stay here in Kelowna, BC, which has been wonderful. That said, we are anxious to return to one of the most beautiful places on earth! We've been fortunate to have visited Glacier and Waterton several times, but we've never driven the motorhome through Waterton. We are convinced that our chosen route will be appropriate.

Highway 6 skirts in and out of the east boundary multiple times and is free of the park fee area as stated.

hmm I tried to post an image of the park boundaries but no joy. The highway is within the park boundaries tho'. The highway is east of the park entrance if coming from Pincher Creek.

My memory says that the highway is in the park but not within the fee area.
