Highway 7 Arkansas and Missouri

We're at Lake Dardanelle State Park in Russellville, AR and will be traveling to Table Rock State Park in Missouri. We're in a 38 ft. motorhome and towing. Any concerns about Highway 7? We see highway 327 in the area, too. We don't mind slow. We just want to be aware of any other considerations.
Thanks.
  • It is doable as long as you do not get in a hurry. Hwy 7 winds and curves around. I have driven it with the rig in my signature. As long as you don't mind slow you will be fine. There are a couple of pretty good mountains to go over, just go slow down the other side and you will be fine.

Highway 7 to Table Rock Lake will be steep, curvy, with few areas to pass. I've driven it many times in my car, but wouldn't want to do it pulling a travel trailer.

The downhill segments will be quite scary - especially as you get close to the Buffalo River.

It would be a lot safer if you took I40 to 540, and then cross over to Branson. That route is 90 miles longer, but only 30 minutes travel time longer, and whole lot safer and less white knuckle driving.

  • I would disagree with calling Hwy 7 scary. It does have hills and frequent curves. I would NOT suggest Hwy 327 for you - it is a secondary highway with more grades and curves, but virtually no truck traffic. Another highway to avoid in this area is Hwy 123 - semi-trucks are banned on alot of it.
  • "It would be a lot safer if you took I40 to 540"....or go up Hwy 65 at Conway.

  • Hwy.7 is a good road take your time and enjoy the trip ,your about 85 /90mi to Harrison
  • Thanks, all. Just completed Hwy 7 to Branson. It wasn't bad at all, but then I guess it's all in what you're used to. For those reading this later, follow the advice of those above and just take it easy. The road down into the Buffalo River area are a bit more winding with steeper grades.
