Highway thru Zion Nation Park

Those huge tour buses go through Zion tunnels all the time. Not familiar with a ranger guide, we were never guided, just follow the vehicle in front of you.

No Guide or escort. They stop oncoming traffic for large vehicles. There is a charge.

I think we paid $15 extra and when you get to the tunnel. They stop on comming traffic so you can straddle the white line and stay in the middle of the tunnel.
I was on my way to Page, next time I'll go around Zion.

Yes, you will have to stop at the park entrance booth and buy a permit for an oversized rig to go through the tunnel. I think it is $15 for a one way trip. Could be wrong about that.

You will likely be stopped at the tunnel entrance to wait for an opportunity to close on-coming traffic toward you. Then allowed to procede through the tunnel.


Zion has had some rock slides - and they get the roads open pretty quickly.

Large vehicles must have permit. Vehicles longer then 50 feet are not allowed.

Zion is such a great park. One of my favorite hikes is the narrows, but you would need to rent special shoes in town. My husband did Angels Landing, and he really liked it also. If you are in the area Bryce is another really neat park. Have fun.

Every national park has an awesome web site with lots of good information including roads, special alerts, things to do and campgrounds.

Enblethen above gave the link which describes the tunnel information. That's the same link for things to do, etc.

Make sure to pay close attention to the hours they will allow over sized vehicles to go through on that link above. It isn't open 24 hours a day.

It's a very smooth process. Have money with you and follow the leader. Nothing to it.

We've been to about 35 National Parks in the last 3 years. Zion is definitely top 3 and on any given day, the top spot! Enjoy!
