  • islandman - good tips, will inquire with the extensions somewhere in ID would shorten the day and make it a bit easier on the horses.

Daireemt - slowey CG looks like a really good option, easy on/off interstate

pfidahospud - fairgrounds camping is a great idea, will see what I can find along that route

I also found a place outside Coeur d'Alene called cloud nine stables i'm checking into.

    thanks!
  • Admittedly I'm not a horse person, but would county fairgrounds be a possibility? Many allow camping, and maybe some allow their barns/stalls to be used as well? Just a thought. My only other suggestion would be the St. Joe drainage area, with a few horse campgrounds, but that's a ways off the interstate. It would be a scenic stop though.
  • A bit beyond Lookout.......between Lookout Pass & Missoula, is Slowey Campground, a Nat'l Forest C.G. with a full set of horse corals on one end of the C.G. Might be a possibility.
We overnighted there in June 2008.
  • Possibly an RV park in a county or municipal fairgrounds location; my guess is that a commercial RV park would not want horses. Check with Home Extension agents in Shoshone and Kootenai Counties in northern Idaho. If no luck in Idaho, there may be something along the way on I-90 after you enter MT.
