How many days for Yosemite, Kings Canyon & Sequoia?

We are looking at a trip the first week or two of Oct. We would enjoy an interesting drive and a few short trails (if not buried in snow). What will we find there for conditions and how long should we plan for each? We will be looking for FHU big rig places outside the parks for our stays. Where would you suggest? It doesn't look like there are many options! Thanks.

  • How many days? Well that depends. If you are a hiker I guess you could spend weeks & not see all. For the sightseer who stops at a few scenic turnouts along th road I guess you could say you did Sequoia in a few days.

Depends on your style & time available.
  • We stayed a few years back at the camp ground in Kings Canyon was not crowded and set in a nice area along the river. Kings canyon and Seqouia are basically co-located, so you can stay in the canyon and day trip to the trees if ya have a towd or small rv to drive. Yosemite is another story as it is larger and requires a bit of movement. If ya cant hike and stuff mainly relegated to the roads and the bottom of the valley. Makes a good motorcycle trip but that is another journey

Good to hear. We will be there for a week in the middle of September.

  • Yosemite being my all-time favorite, I recommend doing the Vernal Fall hike, unless you are willing and able to do Half Dome. Another good day hike is the Mirror Lake loop. Strenuous is the Yosemite Falls hike, very uphill.

Aside from those, each good for a day each, visiting Glacier Point, Toulomne meadows, driving to Tioga Pass are all good for a day each. Using the shuttle all around the valley is a good day. See the Ahwahnee Hotel and also the museums.

This only scratches the surface. If you want more hiking, fishing or back country camping, you could spend a lifetime.

    Enjoy.

P.S. I like Upper Pines best. YMMV.
