- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIBeen MANY a year since I was in Kings Canyon.
Last time we were trying to have Lunch and the Yellow Jackets were being insistent ......
Took a hotdog, cut it up into tiny pieces and placed them on a plate 20 yards away.
Not only did we get to enjoy our lunch in peace but we had entertainment as we watch those Yellow Jackets swoop in grab a piece of hotdog and attempt to go air borne. If load was too heavy they would nibble at the edges and try again. Eventually nibbling off just enough to get air borne with Max Payload.
Memories.....thanks! - Two_HandsExplorerBeautiful photos and great narrative! Thanks for posting!
- LwiddisExplorer IIGreat report, pictures! TY
- ppineExplorer IIReally good TR. It is a great park and not visited much compared to Yosemite. They have some problems with their forest management, but are starting to figure it out.
- Thanks for sharing! It is good to see that you both are still going "out there" and also that there are so many undamaged sequoias left after the fires.
- ReneeGExplorerGreat trip. Thanks for sharing. This area is on our list and the weather was perfect. As long as it's not freezing outside or for short periods at night, we're good to not run our furnace.

Not an epic trip, but it was pleasant and Covid-isolated. Lots of photos of Sequoia trees:

Nice photos and story. We have only done the out-and-back day trips (long day from Monterey Bay) with exception of VRBO'ing a few years back.
Can I asked specifics of where you camped and the cost to do so? Hook ups?
Thanks! - LwiddisExplorer IIHook ups? Azalea campground has no hookups or dump stations. See
https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/azalea.htm - profdant139Explorer IITwisted, we stayed at Azalea Campground -- I think it is $18 a night, and half that with a senior pass! No hookups. They do have flush toilets (we did not use them) and a water faucet.
Note that the campground is so shady that solar panels are of little use, so you have to take that into account when monitoring battery usage.
Also, the campground is at around 6500 feet, so you have to allow a little time to become acclimated to the thin air. - 98coachmanExplorerAwesome as always! Thanks so much prof! Bill
