The fire is still burning and as of last night (May 19) was stillmout of control. It's now bigger than PEI, or for our southern neighbors, about twice the size of Rhode Island. It has also been "crowning" and "spotting" allowing it to make huge advances across fire breaks, it even crossed the Athabasca River, that's about a kilometer wide.
The gov't has announced a potential timeline for the 90,000 people displaced by the fire. Starting June 1 the least damaged neighbourhoods will be allowed back, provided basic infrastructure is in place and the threat from fire does not exist.
