Hwy 1 from Leggett to Fort Bragg

Looking for anyone that has CURRENT first hand knowledge of this route for our motorhome with a tow. Heading that way tomorrow. Chuck
  • Thanks to all. We are currently in a campground in Fort Bragg. We took 101 to 20 to Hwy 1. No problems, there were a few places with construction but not much of a delay. Chuck
  • We took that route southbound in the middle of July. As mentioned there was some on going road work. We have a 25 foot class C and I had my hands full. Zig zag mountain road with some very tight corners. We were heading a campground in Westport. Took me 40 minutes to go 9 miles. Just a slow tricky road..
  • Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but we traveled from Redcrest to Fort Bragg on 11 August and there was some road construction, but only minor delays. We started on 101 and went over to 1 at Leggett. By the time you see this, you may have completed your trip. We did go to the glass beach at Fort Bragg, but the glass seems to have been well picked over and not much left.
  • If it were me, I would take hwy 101 to Willits and then hwy 20 to Fort Bragg. Not because of the construction delays, but because of the narrow, winding road with the steep drop offs on the ocean side. I have taken this route in the past, but would not again. It's shorter, but will take as much time as the 101 route.
  • Well you posted a lot of information that has nothing to do with the route I have asked about, except for two areas with one way construction zones. We have been through about a dozen of those in the past few days. If you have some first hand current experience for the route between Leggett and Fort Bragg, please post. Chuck
  • you can't get there on Hwy 1....huge slide and bridge replacement.
    use dot.ca.gov for road conditions.

  • I chickened out two years ago based on a couple of locals saying no. Ok to Westport which has a nice RV park on coast. Took CA 20 to US 101 to Leggett. Jackson State Forest on 20 is beautiful. Did you eat at Purple Rose? In Ft. Bragg. Great Mexican food.
