I don't think Hwy 101 turns into Hwy 1, but Hwy 1 is on the same alignment as Hwy 101 for a distance, and then Hwy 1 goes back to hugging the coast line. Hwy 101 is a four lane freeway for the entire lenght. Hwy 1 from Morro Bay north to Carmel is very twisty, but extremely beautiful. Probably not the best route for larger RV's, MH or trailers.
