If you stay on HWY 101 north from Santa Barbara, you'll be fine. I've done that route several times with no problems (MH & Tow). If you're going to Morro Bay, you may want to consider taking Los Osos Valley Road (just south of San Luis Obispo) to cross over from HWY 101 over to HWY 1. Its an open road mostly through farmland. Its a lot better cross over route for a big rig & tow than the route that passenger cars would normally take from HWY 101 to HWY 1 through the congested, tight, downtown streets of San Luis Obispo.
