17 through Algonquin and over the top of Lake Huron is a beautiful drive - highly recommended (and MUCH prettier than going through MI). While much of it is two lanes, with occasional passing lanes, there's not a lot of traffic. Ottawa isn't too horrible (not like Toronto), but avoid rush hours. I've no experience with Montreal.
