I tend to agree with the OP. In September I was coming back from a drag race in Eureka and decided to take 199 due to some periodic closures on around Brookings due to the Chetco forest fire. I knew it would be curvy but so is 101. I have a 40' motorhome pulling a 24' enclosed car trailer. I am an experienced driver but that ride was a bit nerve racking. It wasn't an easy drive especially on the narrow sections. I did not see any road signs stating a length limit and I did meet semi trucks on the road.
I would not recommend Hwy 199 for the inexperienced.
