Hwy 27 from Rome to Chattanoga

We discovered hwy 27 coming home last spring. What an easy drive compared to I75. We headed back over to I75 from Rome as we weren't sure what the road was like beyond there. Looked like it went over a mountain area and reduced to 2 Lanes. We are towing a 38 foot 5er. Any input?

  • North of Rome US-27 goes over a couple of ridges, really no big deal. Farther north it gets real slow'n'go; I too would pick up I-75 near Calhoun.
  • Most all of it is 4 lanes. How ever the area through Summerville and Trion is slow with lots of lights, no bypass. And north of Chickamauga National Park is 45 mph with lights to I-24 in Chattanooga. My choice is GA-53 to Calhoun, and I-75 north from there. Now if you are going to stop in the north Georgia area James H Floyd SP just south of Summerville is a nice quite place. Then take GA-151 north to Ringgold and I-75. You really don't want to take US-27 all the way into Chattanooga.
