- D_E_BishopExplorerThere are only two of what I would call steep grades from Bishop to Reno. The first is Sherwin Grade out of Bishop about 6 miles of 7%. It is a four lane divided road, there are a couple of big pullouts if you want to let the truck cool. The second is also four lanes and mostly divided, it is just north of Mono Lake, Conway Summit is not too bad in my opinion. They realigned the road 20-25 years ago and is longer but not as steep.
Walker Canyon a little further North is windy and a lot of it is two lane. Other than that not much to slow you down.
From Hwy 203(Mammoth Lakes turnoff) to Reno is about 120 miles and take 2 to 3.5 hours in a car.
Lots of interesting places along that stretch. - Garry_GayleExplorerI have went that way, SoCal to Carson City pulling a 38' Mobile Suites with a 08 F450 6.4 so you should have no problems. Make sure all your vehicle maintenance is in order, like cooling system. Enjoy the beautiful drive.
- knshookExplorerWe take this route every Sept. We tow 34' FW with no problem. 395 offers such beautiful scenery! Enjoy the drive
- danorenExplorerThank you all for your replies to my post,we sure will drive this route and soak in the hot pools along it.

If you are going to soak in the hot springs, by all means stop at the Mobil Gas Station deli at the Tioga Pass turnoff. Great food. I had an Elk chop with a merlot sauce, spaghetti squash, and mashed potato about a week and a half ago that was special. Great story about how the chef wound up there, too. - profdant139Explorer IIBe careful going over Conway Summit -- the road is fine, but the view can be distracting:
- LaurenExplorerWe just came down it again - got home mid last week. This is our third or fourth time down it from north to south from the OR Coast to Kramers Corner near Boron.
It is not an issue.
Yes, some grades but nothing serious. And they have really, really improved the road! Much of it is now 4 lane.
If going south to north I would recommend Boulder Creek in Lone Pine, Mona Vista in Lee Vining, and Likely RV Park in Likely.
Do you have time to stop and see things? If so, I have some recommendations I could post. - knshookExplorer

x2 The sign only says "Restaurant" but the name is Whoa Nellie Deli. It is the most amazing deli we have ever frequented and the chef is just that.....a real chef! They make the best french fries and we love the lobster taquitos. This is a must try!!
