Hwy 395 the length of California

It has been since back in the 70's I was on this road. Has anyone been on it lateley. Are there any RV parks along the way that anyone knows about and is there a gas problem (especially in the Northern part of the State)

We are thinking about going this route from Washington State to Barstow then on to LV. We are in absolutely NO hurry.

Also wondering how this road it in condition wise (I don't want to beat the RV to shreds)

  • The stretch from Carson City to Reno has been absorbed by an Interstate (I580)
  • Just drove it from Lone Pine to the Nevada Border, no issues at all.

You'll find plenty of RV parks and campgrounds. Gasoline can be found but it's a bit pricey if you have to fuel in places like June Lake. The best place to buy gas is at the Indian casino in Bishop.
  • Whenever possible, I take 395 instead of Interstate 5. Beautiful scenery (at least from Olancha northward), smooth road, a fair number of decent RV parks. Traffic is no problem, except for all the darn RVs. ;)
  • Thanx to 2oldman there...
I was reading thru some of those threads.

Vouching for 395 from the Orygoon border to Reno anyhoo.
Nice easy drive with fuel in just the right places.
  • It is an excellent road for RV's. Just plan for fuel and you shouldn't have any problems. There are some great campgrounds and it is a beautiful drive, albeit a little cold right now.
