Hwy #4 on Cape Breton, any good

So I got here to Fort Louisbourg by going to Baddeck first then down to the Fort. Going back gps is directing me to take hwy 4. Is the hwy any good pulling 30 toy hauler.
  • After you've checked out the rest of the Cape Breton Island, you might go the single digit roads.

Remember the theory is 3 digit roads, 105 etc, are supposed to be the widest, straightest, in best repair.

But with all roads, especially Canadian ones, that's all theory. Last years winter could have reversed that trend. If it's faster to repair the single digit road, to keep traffic moving, that will get done first, natch.

But do all the rest of that island....

  • #4 is great. Did it on my sport bike a few weeks ago.

  • On thanks, 105 was great on the way here. Gps says # 4 is fastest way back since I'm not going to Baddeck on my day back. How are the hills /mountains on #4
  • Going back up that Kelly's mountains of I take 105, would be real tough. Truck developed plugged egr cooler on the trip so that's a big climb with that.

  • well worth the trip, done it!

check out the little canal at st peters, interesting history\

the north shore of the isthmus to new Brunswick is a nice trip too rather than the main highway

if you have time, take the ferry to pei and return to nb on the bridge. getting to the island is free, bridge toll is paid when leaving the island
  • Hold on, last wk. there were problems on PEI ferry, it seems that one is out of service, and limiting RV's nd letting cars on, had to re rout trip. call before, check out. Daughter was held off for two trips, and told they weren't sure of the 11:00 PM crossing.

Yes, there is only one ferry running PEI to NS, but you paint it worse than I hear it is. Some loads they put in a mezzanine, favouring the car traffic. Other loads, especially those at night have the ferry with the usual height allocations. The late night runs are set up to get the industrial traffic through. And, of course, a lot of motorhomes are the same height as the semi-trailers.

But call is definitely a good idea. http://www.ferries.ca/ns-pei-ferry/
