Hwy 491 New Mexico
In the spring we plan on Leaving Laughlin Nevada heading east to Gallup New Mexico, the North to Cortez, Co. on Hwy 491. Looks desolate but 4 lane. Any comments would be appreciated.

- And it is open range with cows, sheep, horses, etc. grazing along the verge and sometimes laying down in the road to get warm in winter months.
- 491 is smooth sailing....491 is old hwy. 666 it used to be known as the Devil's Highway until 2003 when they changed the route number to 491 because so many 666 highway signs were always being stolen and so many superstitious people .
- Just watch your speed on the reservation. Navajo cops have no sense of humor.
- Took it north from Gallup and return this summer. No problems at all.
