Hwy16 Camping on Long Weekend

Well, i finally got the go ahead from my Dr. to take a break from my chemo, so that we can now take 4-5 weeks to go up to the Yukon! It's something that i've wanted to do for a long time, but couldn't, due to health. I'm getting excited!! We will be leaving Van. Island next Wed. night & will be somewhere on Hwy 16 On Friday, which happens to be the start of the long weekend. Just wondering if anyone knows of a campsite, provincial/forestry/commercial that would have spaces for someone traveling through? I do know the area well, as i lived in Kitimat for 13 years, but that was in the '50's & '60's. Thanks, Gary

  • Thanks for the ideas so far. I guess i should of said that we will be going up the Stewart/Cassiar. I've checked & it seems the Red Bluff PP on Babine Lake still has some reservable sites. The only problem with that is we don't know specifically when we'll be there as i don't know how far i can drive in a day ithout wiping myself out. We're in a new to us '96 Roadtrek, which seems very comfortable, but one doesn't know until that initial trip eh! Thanks, Gary
  • For just an overnight in Prince George there is the Casino lot at the Hwy16/97 intersection. Walmart on hwy 16 west. There are three commercial RV grounds just south of PG. Blue Cedar rv on 16 west. A short distance west of Walmart there is an ESSO that has all the fuels, propane and free dump.

RV park in the village of Hixon. Between Hixon and Quesnel a one store place called Cinema with an antique store with free rv parking.

West of PG there are many great places. In Telkwa there is Fort Telkwa RV park but haven't been there for a few years.

If you have the time I highly recommend Stewart/Hyder to see the grizzles catching the salmon. Bring your passports for that.

This website for great information on where you are traveling, http://suethomas.ca/
  • I would imagine that you will go via the Cassiar. There is a place at Kitwanga about 50 sites I think. Not too bad and away from traffic. Phone # from 2years ago 250-849-5799 / 888-678-7275
Best luck & good health Art.
  • Most will likely be busy for the last long weekend of summer. Bednesti Lake between PG and Vanderhoof is convenient but check in early.

Can't help you with the campground but good luck and good health.
