Hwy41 or 140 to Yosemite?

Wife and I want to go to Yosemite and I'm looking for the best to take out 36' TH... I've been to Yosemite a few times but never pulled a trailer up there... Looking for the best route and place to stay... Would prefer full hook ups...
  • That's what I was planning on but the way the information on the website reads makes me think that there is height restrictions...that's the information I'm trying to clarify...

Which website? The NP website for Yosemite? They are only concerned with the roads inside the park. They do not specify restrictions on the roads outside the park.

I've read a lot of folks who stay outside the park as being suggested because they exceed the height limits so cannot travel inside the park.

Take 120 to Groveland, CA, then on to Yosemite Lakes RV Park. Stay for $61 a night. Just a short drive to the Park's entrance. Then a scenic drive down into the valley.

Or, buy a Thousand trails Zone pass and stay at the Thousand Trails park across the road for free and then enjoy all the TT parks for a year in California. 30 nights free. Then just $3 a night.

That's exactly what we did. We took hwy /SR59 out of Merced and took the scenic route to HWY 120(also cut about an hour off travel time) to groveland and we're staying at the Yosemite lakes RV resort. Only one section slowed us down and that was the new priest grade. Dropped the truck into 2nd gear and slowly crawled up the hill.. Truck did fantastic handling the grade. The airbags in the rear helped a huge amount. Found on my brake controller that I had it on the wrong setting (after we pulled into our camp site of course) so we will see how it does going home down the hill. We have the entire camp site to ourselves right now so it's nice...

  • I think there is some miscommunication here. What we are suggesting is that you drive your rig on one of the routes and camp at one of the campgrounds OUTSIDE the park. You then drive your truck into the park to sight see. That way you avoid any issues with height and width restrictions.
  • Ok need help here.. I called Yosemite(it was automated) and they say anything over 35'(measured from kingpin to back of 5th wheel) and anything over 8' wide is considered oversized load and have certain times over sized vehicles can enter due to requiring an escort vehicle( at your cost of course) my 328 is 13'5" high 8'5" wide and over all 36' long(shorter when measured from kingpin to back of the unit... Does anyone know if a number that u can call and talk to an actual person?

  • While looking for the best route I am finding s height limit and my TH is exceeding the. Limit... My Th Is 13'5" tall
  • Offhand I would suggest highway 120 would be easiest driving route.
