I - 70 vs I - 80

Does it HAVE to be an interstate? If not, neither. Take I-70 out to Byers and get on US 36. Take it all the way across eastern Colorado, across Kansas and across Missouri. It's a really good 2 lane road with many 3 lane sections in Kansas, small towns every 30-40 miles, but not major slow down, and 4 lanes across Missouri from St. Joseph to Hannibal. Cross the Mississippi River at Hannibal and take I-72 across Illinois. Depending on your destination in Indiana, you can take I-74 to Indy, or take I-57 north toward Chicago and get off on US 24 and take that east to points north and east in Indiana.

Have done this route multiple times, well worth it to get off the interstates and the madness of the the major truck routes on 80 or 70. If you do a search here on "US 36 Kansas" or "US 36 Missouri" you'll find multiple threads on this route and things to see/do along the way. Personally, I don't think I'll ever take one of the I-s that way back to Indiana since this is such a good route.

I've done all three - RT 36 is the faster of the three - No construction delays - no tolls - no big cities/Rush Hour/More construction........... Oh and it is 60 miles shorter.

But if you must get on the Mind Numbing I's - I just can't do it West of the Mississippi.
