I -79 ( Pittsburgh) to Letchworth State Park NY

We are currently about 50 miles north of Pittsburg off I-79 and are headed to Letchworth State Park in NY. We are in a 43' MH towing a pickup--- about 65 ft long total.
What is the best way into the park ? Every mapping program and GPS I've checked are suggesting different routes. Local advice would be appreciated.

Hi- thanks for the info about the Perry entrance. I put it in the map prg and it shows a 12'6" bridge clearance in Warsaw--- that won't work for me. by a couple inches! Looks like I'll find an alternative, but longer route, which looks like the I-86 route.
  • I believe the South entrance is closed (Portage entrance) due to the replacement of the train tressel.

The Perry entrance is the best bet, goes straight in to the campground.

Here is a link to my Rvillage.com group about WNY and Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls things to do or done.

By the way Letchworth was voted the best SP in the country, enjoy, we do.

  • I don't think any of the obvious routes would be terrible, though I'm not super familiar with them by any stretch.

I would suggest going in at the Perry Entrance, which is closest to the campground. You'll avoid tooling around the park for several miles. Most of the popular attractions are at the other end of the park (nearer the Castile entrance).

As a first guess, I would probably take I-79 to I-86 to NY 19 to NY 39. The state routes are two-lane roads through towns etc., but at least at a quick glance don't appear too terribly bad to travel on with a motorhome.
