I-40 in NC to Mammoth Cave Kentucky ?

OK so Google shows me peeling off I-40 in Tennessee in Cookeville and heading north on Hwy 84. Then it's all two lane from there, mostly. Lot's of stop-n-go I'm sure.
However I was looking at staying on 40 all the way to Nashville then I-65 North from there. Campground is close to 65.
I realize it'll add more mileage but the time could be almost the same or less, and be almost 100% interstate.

Thoughts???

  • Thanks guys, I'll do the I75-Cumberland Parkway route for sure. I knew nothing about it until I posted this, thanks again.

I'm with rv2go on this one. I made this route in September. Kentucky has a great system of Parkways.

In fact, we went all the way west to Land Between the Lakes.
  • I have used the 231 north from Lebanon TN many times heading north, as I live south of Lebanon. Good scenic 2 lane road with very little traffic, that will miss all of Nashville. Once at Glasgow KY, then take Hwy 90 or Cumberland Parkway to I-65

This is a very pretty route, as is the 231 route.

If you come through Nashville, take Briley Parkway (SR-155) around the northeast side to I-65. I-40 exit 215, then go north on Briley, take exit 15 to I-65. Pay attention to the signs, and get the right direction, it's a good road.
